Sano Cestnik:

Only 20, when there should be at least 200, which would nevertheless still be only the tip of the iceberg.
But the older you get, the more films you can see :-)
H Baeck 17.50 %
Chris B 16.75 %
Louis Morel-Fatio 16.50 %
Miguel Galrinho 16.25 %
Frederic Lyardet 16.00 %

Made some minor changes. Put out my longtime No. 1 (Dead Man), switched places 3 and 2 (now 1 and 2), and added The THin Red Line at No. 20

Ok, this list is already one and a half years old and would need some adjustment. Unfortunately this won't/can't be done until I get the opportunity to rewatch some of the films in a proper way (uncut Topazu, good DVDs of Deus e o diabo, Zabriskie Point, Mes petites amoureuses, Moe no suzaku). I saw most of the films under ideal conditions (cinema and pristine print) and that's why they are here (besides being masterpieces). It would be unfair to discard them just because I haven't seen some of them in a long time.

But I believe there could be changes the next time I try to make a Top 20.
Andrei Rublov might enter again, as well as new favorites "The Maltese Falcon" and The Brown Bunny" (whose rewatches have been nothing but revelatory). And I see a lot of new films each year, so who knows what the future will bring?

PS: will Vertigo ever drop out of my Top 20? It's been there for more than ten years already ever since i started to blossom into a cinéaste :-)

Oh you should definitely see the ones on my list you haven't already seen. I'm sure you'd like them. And not a fan of All About Eve? That's too bad. For me it's pretty much the perfect script making up for some pretty generic direction. The script and the acting, just perfect.

Nice list. I REALLY want to see Eureka. Also Le Mepris, Children of Paradise and Zabriskie Point. I need to see Dead Man again. I love Barry Lyndon, 2001 and Vertigo. La mama et la putain might be interetsing too. City Lights ia also a good movie.

Edited the list.
No English Patient (dropped out of my top 500 entirely), no Adaptation (dropped out of my top 100) no stalker (dropped out of top 20).
Added The mother and the whore, added (again) children of paradise, and 2001 - a space odyssey.

not big on Dead Man, English Patient or Adaptation... but I have to love a list with Andrei Rublev and Stalker

Nah, these are just better films. Just because a film was made earlier, it doesn't mean it's better ;-)

That's no problem, I'm sure I can find it on amazon or ebay (well, hopefully). Thanks for the info!

Well we have no official affinity but it's always good to come across such individual lists, with an unusual mix of films. And great to see Angelopoulos' masterpiece getting credit.

Thanks for the kind words champ most appreciated, have u checked out any Bela Tarr films? if not try him excellent technique, hate #20,but it does have Grateful Dead music,so that ain't too bad.

Oh, I meant the Kitano film. My mistake. Btw, I had a look for Brother (Eliot's short) on Imdb & it sounds very interesting, but unfortunately it seems rather difficult to find...

Thanks for the nice comment. I really like your list, favourites of mine include 5, 7, 8, 14, 16, and 19. There are also quite a few on the list which I haven't seen yet (but want to), namely 1, 2, 3, 12, 13, 15, 17.
