That should be "golf," not "gold." I have no idea what a game of "gold" would entail, though I assume it would involve strippers.

This is the cinematic quivalent of a game of gold, except without the added excitement of wondering if one of the commentators is going to say something racist.

Ozu, I apologize. I never should have doubted your ability to craft accurate behavioral coordinates. Please forgive me.

Why is it that for the first half of the film, whenever Noriko talks, regardless of the context, she is smiling the same exact smile? I dont know why it annoyed me, but it did.

Thought it was a great movie though.

I actually think he's better in color.
Jimmy Changa's BEST SEEN in 2007 wrote on 14 june 2007
I think Ozu was great in color but even greater in b/w... something about his b/w films just move me more... but it's indisputable that he was a master in color as well.

yes, see An Autumn Afternoon and tell me he's not effective in color.
Richard Li wrote on 25 september 2006
no way, color was such a breakthrough for him. making his films look even more arcane and quirky. it's true he was much more at home with b/w, but i loved ohayo so i wouldn't say MUCH (or "must"...) less effective

Anyone notice how must less effective Ozu is in color? The black and white photography is what gives his films their emotional power it seems to me. Am I wrong? Also Setuko Hatta is much more beautiful in B&W.

Masterpiece. My favorite Ozu so far.
