I notice that you are listed as one of the more compatible with my list, and I can see why... I also write online reviews and am a member of the Online Film Critics Society.

All great movies here except for Cabaret !!! :-)

Cool list, Speegs. If you like "Rocky Horror," you should definitely check out Russ Meyer's "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls." I think I must be the only person on the planet who found "Duck Soup" just jaw-droppingly unfunny.

Really nice list with different movies. So many great classics. Happy to see Cabaret here also- my favourite musical.

I just read your reveiw of Whale Rider and I couldn't agree more. I loved the film and especially the ending. When I explain it to people, it just doesn't do the film justice, I simply recommend people watch it without knowing much about it. As for your list here...#8, 9, 11, 15, 17, and 19 are all great films. I do like Hedwig much better than Rocky Horror though.

Brilliant film, I agree.

Thanks for your comment. Nice list yourself- I've never seen "Manhattan" or "Rocky Horror" and I've never liked "Cabaret". But everything else is great. I especially like your #1, 2, 4, 19 (and of course 9 & 10) picks. Hedwig is pretty wonderful too. I just saw "Marriage of Maria Braun" last night for the first time and realized how much of an influence that film is on parts of the Hedwig tale.

Oops, didn't mean to say Murnau, I had just finished commenting on a list with him and I forgot what list I was writing for. Oh, and about Brazil, have you seen that Criterion DVD? I was in heaven with that thing when I rented it last weekend.

Great list! Love Hedwig, Murnau, Hitchcock, Gilliam, Welles, Kubrick, Allen...very nice stuff.

Wow, this must be one of the oddest lists on the site. Instead of reacting badly, though, I love it. M, Manhattan, Cabaret...undervalued. Do the Right Thing, Hedwig, Brazil, Fargo...great future classics. On the toher hand, I'm not a big fan of 2001 or Vertigo (just overrated, they're both actually good films). Oh, yeah, and Citizen Kane is pretty good.

A very nice well-rounded list! Great to see Fargo on the list. One question, though. You are obviously a fan of Hitchcock, but where's Rear Window? Not a fan, or do you have yet to see it?

Good to see Hedwig on the list. Also Manhattan. I have a weakness for the over-the-top Metropolis.
I'm not so fond of vertigo; if there must be Hitchcock, give me Rear Window. And who could argue with cinematic treats Lawrence of Arabia & Casablanca?

The Muppet movie? Intriguing to say the least...

I'll return the compliment. Very diverse and top-notch list. I also like many of the films you've included that didn't make my list as well.

Thanks for commenting on my list. If we just have "2001" in common, I can see we share a lot of our favourite directors : Hitchcock first, of course, and then Fritz Lang (I chosed "Fury" because I'm really fan of Spencer Tracy), Terry Gilliam and Woody Allen. "Fantasia", "Duck Soup", "Cabaret" : so many great classics I'm happy to find there. Bravo !
