Give this man some money!!
- Voir tout l'avisPulse has some really creepy moments that will give you nightmares but like other Kiyoshi Kurozawa movies, it's not really a horror movie. The movie deals with disconnection among people caused by modern world. People are wired to their computers, game gears and TV. It asks the difference between ghosts and real people. If you are really alone and lonely and don't connect to anyone then what is the difference? It has a lot in common with other contemporary Japanese movies that have elements of horror genre but have scathing messages about the modern world. It has more common with Suicide Club than say, Ringu. It is difficult to give K.Kurozawa movies more than 6/10 because his movies usually defies categorazation. And at times, it is not well executed. He is one of those talented directors who has interesting ideas but has no means to elaborate fully, in a typical three act structure with a narrative pull. In Pulse there are some CGI scenes that are too obviously fake. It stretches out one single idea for too long. But interesting neverthless. I hear the remake of this movie is coming out in the US soon. And it will be nothing but a cheezy horror movie I'm sure. I wonder why 'existential dread' theme is not catching up to American movies. Anyway, K. Kurozawa is very good at reflecting modern Japanese psyche. Check out his other movies, especially Cure and Bright Future. Note : 5/10 Points forts : Gloomy mood Kurozawa creates is like in no other movies. Points faibles : Bad CGI effects. ![]() Les membres qui ont sélectionné Kaïro:

Mr Chang, i do not agree with you. The absence of a 'three act structure' only adds to the nightmarish feel of the movie. For the viewer, it seems like it never ends, and he/she gets swamped in the gloom & despair of the protagonists. With other words, because of the unclear story structure, there are no familiar elements to hold onto. Pulse had that effect on me, anyway.

I wouldn't go as far as Eric Marsh but I would have to agree with him in that there is nothing scary about this film, the J-horror genre has become cliched as of late and it takes something to stand out, Pulse does not do anything remarkable. Its by no means a bad film, but just not a good one either.

There's nothing particularly scary about this movie. It's probably one of the biggest pieces of shit I've ever seen.
