I love the love for Grave of the Fireflies. Maybe the most pleasant surprise of any movie I've ever seen. Great list altogether.

New Poll: What is your favourite dystopian film?

By dystopian film I mean one which portrays an imaginary world (often happening in a near or distant future), which shows a pessimistic view of humanity. For example, in literature, very popular dystopias are '1984' by George Orwell and 'A Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley. Some dystopian films classify as sci-fi (like THX 1138), but often they deal with politically opressive regimes in real or imagined lands (e.g. V for Vendetta). Here's a list of dystopian films:

Some great films here Mark!! I think its funny that the only films we have in common are number 1 and 20. I still say Grave of the Fireflies is a great film just depressing as all hell!!

I have yet to find out what's so "amazing" about Schindler's List (though I can see some of its qualities). Particularly pleasing to see Thin Red Line and Mon Oncle here. Kudos! Ren

I'm new here and apparently you're list is the closest to mine (though still under 50%) Great list though. Definately gotta see Grave of the Fireflies now.

Damn. I wish I could fit Chinatown on my list. But it would have to replace The Conversation, and I just. Can't. Let. Go.

Superb list. Thin Red Line seems out of place considering all the classics you have. It's a terrific movie, but I prefer Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven.
