Ignatz Ratskiwatski:

I have tried to have absolutely no agenda with this list -- just stuff I like. I should have more Sturges, Hitchcock, Truffaut, and all the remaining Pixar films, but I ran out of room. Twenty is a deceptively small number.

YES to Stolen Kisses and Babe
NO to The Band Wagon, the last sequence (the film noir segment) is amazing but other than that, kinda blah.

Ignatz: great name (I love Sturges!) and a fine list. Buster Keaton is another hero of mine, and though I haven't seen your #16, this is one of the best lists I've ever come across on the site. Truffaut, Fred Astaire, those crazy Marxes all present and correct... Take a look at my list if you have a moment, please- thanks!

Always great to see the appreciation of Stolen Kisses...Truffaut's greatest out of so many masterpieces.

We have less than a 4% affinity. Nevertheless, a nice list. Personally, my only agenda was Wilder. We at least agree on The Band Wagon

I read Sturges on Sturges in college, actually -- did an independent study on Sturges vs. Capra. I saw Unfaithfully Yours when I was eight or so, I think, and it must have scarred my young psyche in some fashion because I've been loath to check it out again ever since.

Hail the Conquering Hero is certainly a good picture. Even though I don't have any Preston Sturges films on my list, I own all those I have been able to find on DVD. Glad Criterion is starting to pay attention. I got hold of a copy of the book Sturges on Sturges, and it's pretty interesting. It may be hard to find but it's worth the effort. My favorites of his are Sullivan's Travels, Palm Beach Story, and one that not so many love, Unfaithfully Yours. I like the range of your list.

Yeah, I love both of them, but the second one gets me much more viscerally. Maybe because it's got the theme of unrequited love/fear of rejection, which is probably the theme which most affects me (it's easily applicable to about half of my twenty).

This is a good list! Heathers -- man, I haven't thought about that movie in years. Interesting that Toy Story 2 placed so high and the first didn't make the cut. I think I liked the first one a bit better, but #2 was very good as well.
