I was actually planning to go see Le Cercle Rouge this weekend, as it's playing in a theatre around here. However, looks like I'm not gonna get to it. I'll check it out on the inevitable Criterion release after this theatrical run. Too bad, though; I really enjoyed the Melville films I've seen (Bob & Le samourai).

I like this list although I'm definitely not a big fan of Moulin Rouge. And Bob le Flambeur was fine but didn't really impress me. However, Blue, 8 1/2, FotR, Andrei Rublev and most of the others are good picks.

I'm sure you are a nice man!
 I was trying (badly, no doubt) to explain that I think Merchant/Ivory films are lovely old friends - what I think of as Sunday afternoon movies - but they're just not very adventurous, and I'd hate someone to view them thinking they were the best of British... Incidentally, what makes you choose Blue rather than Red or White - I don't think you're wrong, I'm just curious.
