Ailo Ravna:

The order of these films change all the time, but the list should give you a general idea.

You aren't kidding. Have you ever seen Buttgereit's Schramm? It's just as devastating, and one day a year or so ago I watched both movies back-to-back and didn't leave my room again for 2 days.

Seeing all the Bergman on this list makes me regret having not put any of his films on my own, though I notice the film I would have chosen - Fanny and Alexander - is missing. Have you seen it, and if so are you a fan?

Also, I must admit that I found The Seventh Seal rather underwhelming in relation to the rest of his work, specifically Wild Strawberries. Though some of the film's images are undeniably powerful, I feel as though the symbolism and ideas presented by the film are less challenging than in his other works, which is certainly why it remains his most accessible work, but perhaps makes it less rewarding. I'd like to hear what you think, though.

which lynch film would you think dd is based upon? i think they are very different, lynch is psychological and dd is in for the mindfuck-ending and it has a discernible plot and an (although fantastic) explanation. lynch is beyond plot limitations (and explanations that is)- he can afford it cause he's a genius.

Once I make my official list, Once Upon A Time In The West will definitely be in my top 5, and if I decide to make the list more than one-film-per-director, Once Upon A Time In America will probably show up too. Back to the Future won't make my real top 20 (my current list is just a bunch of films I've been recommending to friends lately or talking about a lot), but I do think it's one of the more entertaining and enjoyable films of the 80s.

Nice list. Nothing I really dislike here, and quite a bit I love, especially Eraserhead, Taxi Driver, Blue Velvet, Evil Dead II, The Big Lebowski, and your Leone picks. I'm still a Clerks fan, although my opinion of Kevin Smith has really sunk lately-- I guess he's another hero of my youth that I've grown out of. Return of the King was undoubtedly the best film of the series for me, mainly for the last hour, but I really have no desire to see the Lord of the Rings films again. The Crow was decent, I guess, but I never got the big deal. Your Burton picks aren't half bad either, although, aside from Ed Wood, I'm not convinced that he's made a truly great film.

Interesting list.

I really like Trainspotting and Blue Velvet, and Clerks, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and This Is Spinal Tap are all good comedies. Lost Highway is decent too, and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with me is interesting. I could never really get into Eraserhead though. I'm not usually much of a Tim Burton fan, but Edward Scissorhands isn't bad. Evil Dead II has a certain goofy charm. I think that Se7en is very overrated though.

Some very good choices.

Good to see two westerns in the top three.

5, 7, 8, and 11 are great.

I preferred The Evil Dead to Evil Dead II, however.

Welcome to YMDB

Very nice choices so far, and excellent first two picks. Looks like you enjoy stylish and smart comedy and horror. Very impressive to see Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens in yourlist. That's a masterpiece.

Edgar C.
