Is Vertigo your favorite Hitchcock film, or do you feel that it's his best?
Brian Schmid a écrit le 14 aout 2005
LOVED
Vertigo
Taxi Driver
Once Upon a Time in America (nice! superior to both "The Godfather" series and "Goodfellas", my man)
The Godfather, Pt. II (yes, better than the first as well)
The Exterminating Angel
Chinatown
Rear Window
Goodfellas

ENJOYED

Awesome list, I prefer Godfather Part II or Goodfellas over Once Upon a Time In America. The first half of the film is brilliant, but the second half feels pretty bland

Oh. My god.
Really a great list. I always jump up and down when I find another with the same appreciation for Once Upon A Time In America. Very fine list. Haven't seen ENOUGH films on your list though.

No Giant, no East of Eden, no The Apartment.....very questionable list

Great list, though I don't personally see Once Upon a Time in America as anything special. Raising Arizona rules and is a great wild card entry. I love it sooooo much. I guess I just don't get Jules and Jim. I will check out Narayama Bushiko - I hear there is a 1958 version of this story by Kinoshita.

Great list. Love to see Sunrise, Altman, Bergman, and Polanski all on one list.

It's obviously not on his list, asshole. Donnie Darko isn't that great of a film anyway.

Where's Donnie Darko?

Hi, this is Wizard from RT. Great list! We have some affinity.
There are some films on your list that I still have to see and I'm, looking forward to.
The ones I am not a fan of are "The Godfather, Part II", "Jules and Jim" and I don't think "Raising Arizona" is the Coens' best film.
However, if "it's okay with you, it's okay with me"

Great list! This is Aragorn Exley from RT; top-notch stuff, even if Vertigo isn't one of my favorite Hitchcocks. There are some here that are VERY high on my to-see list.

It's not so much that the locations are SF-specific (Vertigo has been one of my favorites since before I moved to the Bay Area), but they are illustrative of psyche of the characters --it's like their heads spill out into their environment.

Just watched Vertigo for the first time as an adult (mmm... restored DVD...). How much influence did the S.F. locales have on your love for it? Please understand, I don't mean to impugn its greatness at all. It's not on my list, but it's one I will definitely be revisiting regularly.

Of course, many excellent choices but the sublime Sansho Dayu is the stand-out. It's disappointing that Mizoguchi, a truly great master, seems scarcely known on this site. Given his high reputation, particularly in France, he is strangely and shamefully neglected in the English-speaking world.

Oh yes and Sunrise is wonderful too.
