i really enjoyed this movie- but i am a new zealnder and a Maori so it was very familiar to me - it was great to see its world wide impact.

I don't know exactly why I watched this film at the theatre as many times as I have. What I can say is that every time I left the theatre, I felt somehow enlarged - one review calls the film "nourishment." I don't think the movie is PC at all - aboriginal people around the world do talk like that, and do act like that, even regarding wildlife. Honesty is surely something beyond politically correct or incorrect. And I don't think it's simplistic either - any moreso than the book. Many have attempted to describe the film, and you'd think they were talking about completely different movies. Like any of the movies on my Tarkovsky heavy top 20 list, you can take from the film in accordance with what you bring to it. There was really nothing exotic in the film. Exoticism is anathema, anyway, and Said's Orientalism is an excellent deconstruction of one form of that myth. I may move it to number 1 soon.
