Man, I wrote that comment awhile ago. This list is horrible.

Great list, it's hard to find people that can appreciate modern and classic cinema. I think it's important to understand that both are great in their own rights.

Why does everyone hate Forrest Gump. I thought it was a great movie. Anyway, great list. Rashomon is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Casablanca? Schindler's List? Gone with the Wind? Forrest Gump? The Usual Suspects? The Shawshank Redemption? TOY STORY?!? Goddamn, this list sucks.

Leave it to a critic to remember Alain Resnais.

usual suspects, and fight club are overrated, but an excellent overrall list for a critic

A german critic with no german films in the Top 20? Then again, I'm german, and I don't have any in my list, either. :-) Nice overall list, though. There's about 10 movies which would make my Top 50. Only 2 in my Top 20, though...

Good, solid list of great films. Many of these could easily find their way on my list in the future.

Not quite a lot movies I have in my list but I appreciate your list. But Casablanca on #1? :-)

I am not surprised that you thought The Hours was only mediocre since I'm planning on hearing a lot of complaints my placing of it, but it was my #1 from 2002 so I might as well give it a little love. As for Crouching Tiger, I thought the same when I first saw it, but it really grows on me every time that I see it. You have an interesting list going for yourself though. I guess it's not often that you see The Bicycle Thief on the same lsit as Fight Club, but it's a good list none-the-less. Casablanca, Taxi Driver, and Rashomon are among my personal favorites. Yes, my grandfather was from Germany - I figure you guessed that from my name. Do you know other people with the name? Do you live in Germany?

Who are you on RT? Sorry, I think I know given your list, but I am just checking.
Honestly Pulp Fiction has dropped from my list long ago, I just haven't taken the time to update my list to be honest - though you have prompted me to do so. However, to answer your queston more specificly: I should probably see Pulp Fiction again before commenting, but the free flowing nature and dance scene (which are the only things I can think of that were taken) were what I loved most about Band of Outsiders, while in Pulp Fiction, I really liked the dialouge and acting.

Nice list...except for Week End.

Perfectly valid points on Forrest Gump - however, I will say that I've rewatched Fellowship several times since I became completely immersed in film and have found it to hold up amazingly well, and I still think it's a remarkable accomplishment and a great masterpiece. As for Pulp Fiction, I'm not sure if there's anything that I'd really called flawed. It just doesn't resonate the same as a film like Rashomon when discussing masterpieces, but I haven't seen Pulp Fiction as many times as most people (Just twice!) so next viewing could very well make it a masterpiece. It's in no danger of leaving my list on my web site, that's for sure.

Great stuff too, Wizard! The only film here I dislike is Forrest Gump. Masterpieces, IMO, are The Bicycle Thief, Taxi Driver, Schindler's List, Rear Window, Rashomon, Psycho, and Pulp Fiction is damn close. Awesome stuff

Forrest Gump was once one of my favorites, but I need to watch it on DVD. I'm tired of VHS tapes.
