Great list! BTW Corridor of Mirrors is a British gothic drama from 1948. It may best be described as Vertigo meets Mad Love (1935), with a bit of Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast. I believe Criterion still has the video rights, so they may release at some point on DVD.

Fine list. My favourite director is Naruse.

Found the reg 2 ozu box with Flavour of green tea and Record of a tenement gentleman
I also saw In A Lonely Place the other day. Great lines and some terrifying acting by Bogey, he's got to be one of my favourite actors now.

Some (like Floating Clouds and Mother) actually have releases from a little Spanish company called Maestros. (Masters in english) The transfers aren't ideal but they're most certainly watchable. I can't find a VCD or DVD or anything of Ginza Cosmetics, I downloaded it through KG.

I've revised my opinion of Gion Bayashi upwards since seeing the new dvd: before i'd thought it minor Mizo but now i can see it's a little gem.

Clouzot's* too.

Sorcerer is the remake of Clouzout's film. I also like it a lot more (Tangerine Dream soundtrack = A+).

Yup, huge Naruse fan. I've only seen nine of his films so far so I can't say I'm anywhere close to being a expert. At first, I actually liked him quite a bit more than Ozu but after seeing 15 Ozu films, I can't say I retain that opinion. Yes, I've seen I Fidazanti and I love it, but Il Posto hits closer to home. I should probably look into more Olmi.
Anyway, very nice list. I'm not a huge fan of It's a Wonderful Life or the stuff like it but I am a huge fan of Tokyo Story, Floating Clouds, Sansho the Bailiff, and Flesh. Zerkalo and Shadows are very good too but I think Tarkovsky and Cassavetes went on to do better things. Fanny and Alexander and 8 1/2 don't really "fit" my current cinematic preference but they both hold a lot of nostalgic value for me so I love them anyway. Great directors list too! I should see more Buñuel, it's been quite a while since I've seen one of his films. Ozu, Bresson, Fassbinder, Godard, Naruse, Cassavetes -- love them all. I really should get into Dreyer and Kiarostami one of these days. I should see more Mizoguchi too; only seen three so far. I'm not a big fan of Rohmer, though. Sturges and Capra have their moments, I suppose but generally speaking, they're not my thing.

I got the Criterion Eclipse set and a Dutch boxset which has Late Spring, Early Summer, Tokyo Story, Good Morning and The End of Summer in it.
Do you know where I can get the reg 2 Ozu sets? My usual store don't sell it no more

Yuki!
How are you man? Glad to hear from you after such a long time. My current list is just a thematic one. (women and their plight). PS: **** for Edvard Munch is correct
Frank Witkam wrote on 25 décember 2007
I saw Faces as well, which was really amazing and unlike any other film I've seen. I got 3 more Cassavates films to go. (boxset)
Meshi is probably my favourite Naruse as well, I only recently dropped it from my top 20.

Great to see both Mizoguchi and Cassavetes twice on a list! I put 'Woman' on mine but could easily replace it with Opening Night or Love Streams.

LOL, The Naked Gun seems a little out of place. But it's also the only movie here that I like.
