TIME OUT FILM GUIDE, 4th edition, published in 1995 a poll about best films of the century.
Do you know the individual ballots? Are you interested in similar polls by POSITIF (2002), NICKEL ODEON (1995), KINEMA JUNPO (1999), STEADYCAM (2007) and others? Reply me!

Nice to see Manhattan on your list. Its one of my favourite comedies and Woody Allen is a genius

Terrific list. Hope and Glory is a wonderful film that doesn't get the attention it deserves. Dr. Strangelove is always a good #1 choice :-)

AWESOME choice for number one. One of my favorites.
I also like number 2 and 8, but I've either never seen or don;t like (cough2001cough) all the others.)

Do you rate 'The Pillow book' ?Had it on tape for ages but not got round to watching due to disapointment in previous Greenaways.

Great list, lots of movies here that nearly made mine. Great to see 'hope and glory' and 'life is sweet' getting some deserved praise, love them both. Still on british cinema though have to say Peter Greenaway just doesn't do it for me, just too wilfully obscure/intellectual etc for me. Though 'cook, thief..' etc is undeniably a visual feast. (bad pun intended)

yes, my life would be a lot less rich - and indeed the walls of my home a lot more bare - were it not for peckinpah movies. Ride the High Country is, of course, an absolute delight (I enjoyed your comments about the ending elsewhere on the site) and the wild bunch needs no more comment but the list is limited to just 20 and was hard enough finalising it was.
JSA is an astounding film and features what I consider to be the best freeze frame ending ever...and yes, I have seen butch cassidy.

A good solid list. I picked the more obvious 'point blank' as the boorman inclusion on mine but the first hour of 'hope and glory' is as fine an hour of filmaking as you can wish for ('pauline,...would you like some shrapnel' still puts a very wide grin on my face).
Sansho the bailiff, Ran, chungking and manhattan all fine additions though never had much time for The Cook, The Thief... In fact I am still scarred by the early '90s when all british cinema could give the world was Greenaway and the egregious Derek Jarman. I hope those days never return. suivant >>
